Tile Week 2011, Day 1: Fireclay Tile Uses Industrial Waste to Make These Products

The Debris Series of tiles combines good looks with eco-consciousness. San Jose, Calif.-based Fireclay Tile uses clay, but the company also combines baghouse dust from glass recyclers, granite dust from quarries, and spent abrasives from water-pipe cleaning to produce its line of handmade products. The tiles contain more than 62 percent recycled content and come in 112 colors and various types of glazes. Expect to pay about $24 per square foot. www.fireclaytile.com.
