MonierLifetile by Boral Roofing
Every now and then we come across a product that sounds cool in theory but seems a little ridiculous and gimmicky when you give it a second look. That’s the nagging feeling I got when I saw the Smog-Eating Tile from MonierLifetile by Boral Roofing. The roof tiles neutralize nitrogen oxide (a major ingredient in smog) by speeding up oxidation, which is supposed to reduce pollution. The active ingredient, the company says, is titanium dioxide, which acts as a photo catalytic agent. Once it’s exposed to the sun, the titanium breaks down nitrogen oxide molecules and speeds up the oxidation process. We have no idea if it really works, but we’re quite suspicious about the promise. www.boralna.com.
