A bulb that’s better than light emitting diodes and compact fluorescent? That’s the word on the street—at least according to this manufacturer. The company calls it “the world’s first affordable, non-toxic and energy-efficient alternative to Edison’s incandescent floodlight.” Um, okay. The R30 ESL, the company says, is a new light bulb that’s safer than CFLs and offers better lighting than LED’s. Featuring a technology that was common in the 1950s, the bulb is made with Electron Stimulated Luminescence technology, which uses accelerated electrons to stimulate phosphor to make the surface of the bulb glow. Priced at a more reasonable—at least compared to an LED bulb—$20, it lasts for 10,000 hours. www.vu1.com.
